Helena Community Gardens(HCG) builds gardens, provides the tools and knowledge to grow food, and increases access to healthy and affordable food. Our most visible projects are our gardens themselves. Each year around 200 gardeners in 9 community gardens produce food for themselves and for Helena Food Share customers. (Helena Food Share provides food to 1500 families per month, and partners with HCG and others to eliminate hunger in the Helena area). HCG currently manages 9 gardens located throughout the city, with the goal of all residents being within walking distance of a garden. Additionally, many HCG gardens include handicap accessible garden beds and pathways. HCG also provides several annual workshops on gardening, composting, and food preservation in order to increase sustainability, production, and yield for our gardeners and other community members.
