We are a non-profit organization that focuses on building strength, stability and self-reliance through shelter. We provide a hand-up to local people in need by performing critical home repairs and putting home ownership with in reach. Examples of some of our current projects include a home remodel for a woman and her three children who are looking for some permanence and security after fleeing a domestic violence situation. We are also remodeling a bathroom to make it more accessible and safe for a current homeowner with disabilities, and we just insulated the trailer of a local man so that he would be able to remain in his home for the winter.
Helena has one of the most expensive markets in the state for both renting and buying homes. There are just under 500 families currently on the Helena Housing Authority waitlist. Helena Area Habitat is the only organization that is actively building affordable housing in our community. There is obviously a tremendous amount of need for this kind of work and we need the support of the entire community to build more homes and impact more families. Since our founding, we have built 32 homes and renovated many more. We are driven to increase our capacity and put more families in safe, decent and affordable housing.
