Community Cocktails: Archie Bray Foundation

June 7, 2017

Archie Bray, Sr.’s, original vision for the Archie Bray Foundation, and our mission statement, is “to make available to all who are seriously and sincerely interested in any of the branches of ceramic art, a fine place to work”. The idea of people and place central to this mission encompasses a broad range of people and activities. The hub, focus and central “nexus” of all activity at the Bray is our artist-in-residence program. For 65 years, ceramic artists at all stages of their career – from students to established professionals – have come to the Bray to pursue their creative and professional growth in a supportive environment distinguished by state-of-the-art facilities and a dynamic community of other artists. Likewise, artists and students in the local community have the chance to build fundamental skills, experiment with new techniques and explore their own creativity in year-round sessions of classes taught by the resident artists. Moreover, visitors from the local area and around the world experience the latest work being done in the field of ceramics through the Bray’s annual schedule of exhibitions, which are always free and open to the public. Finally, a series of free, public lectures in the summertime give guests an insider’s look into the experiences, influences and interests of contemporary artists from around the world.
